Day 16

The outside from the ground level looks the same as for day 15.
But today they put up the floor for the loft and the upstairs bedrooms. Here you can see them bringing the plywood through the dining room window and gluing down the wood before nailing it in so it won't squeak when people sleeping upstairs walk on it when they get up to go to the bathroom in the middle of the night.
You can see the support beam for the music room from the great room and from inside the music room.
Here's a look at the loft floor from the top and from underneath.
They have to work on another house tomorrow so it will be a couple of days before they finish the floor and start putting up the walls and the roof.

Day 15

Can you see the subtle difference from the previous day?
Here is a close up and some clues.
They put in the rafters for the second floor!! Here's the loft, the kitchen/pantry/mudroom, the bedroom, and the master bath and closet.
While they worked on the floors, grandma and I stacked the leftover logs for our guest house project and worked on grandma's garden.

Day 14

The outside looks the same but Friday they finished framing all the rooms downstairs so they can start putting in the loft and the rooms upstairs in the wings.

First is the central module that will support the loft. In that module are the door to the storage under the stairs (You are viewing from inside the stairs), the hall to the stair storage and the half bath, the pantry in the kitchen, the mud room/laundry room and the wall of the music room by the front door (where the piano and one of Kim's Murphy beds will be).

They have also framed in the master bedroom walk in closet and the master bathroom.
Here's a look at some of the left over logs and bits of logs. Caroly and I will be storing them away to use in the guest cottage walls in some creative fashion. The smaller pieces we will use in our chain saw art.

Day 13

Does it look like we are making a sailing ship--or putting up a football goal? Actually, those are the supports for the beam that will hold up the roof above the loft. You can see that they have done more for the front porch and have attached the hurricane straps that will hold the second floor down in a big wind.
Here's a closer look at one of the two of the posts that hold up the roof in the great room and loft.

Day 12

Today they put up the posts for the front porch, put in the load bearing walls for the loft and the kitchen, and put in the metal braces for the poles that will support the roof and the loft.
Here's the view into the house through the music room window, and the view out the same window.
Things are getting exciting!

Day 11

They have finished all the logs for the bottom floor, have put up the load bearing wall for the floor above the master bedroom, and have marked off the closet and master bathroom.
How do you like how Oliver is celebrating?
Next they'll finish marking off the rooms downstairs, put up the rest of the load bearing walls and start putting up the second floor!

Day 10

The main floor is now topped off and ready to add the second floor.
Here they are finishing up the bathroom and the master bedroom corners.
We also had the electric outlets on the temporary pole activated yesterday so we can use extension cords instead of the generator to run the water pump for the well and the electrical tools for the construction.
To celebrate, I mowed the grass around the house. Does the house now have a golf course setting?
