Racing to the finish!

We have to get everything done by this coming Wednesday--so we are racing to the finish. Thursday, the bankers came to make sure we really are spending our money on the house (we passed inspection) and the plumbers came and installed the toilets, faucets, and the water heater. I need to install the bathroom doors for privacy. Monday they need to connect the dishwasher and icemaker on the fridge.

Friday the electricians finished up their work, installing all the switches, can lights, the range hood, and made sure that everything works. We now have power full time in the house. Now that there is electricity full time in the house, the air conditioning people will activate the thermostat and the heating and air.

All the dirt for the septic system is in place and Friday the sod was delivered. Grandma and I laid two pallets of sod before heading to the temple at noon. How do you like Duke with his sunglasses, the driver of the sod truck?

Saturday we finish sodding, work on the bannisters for the stairs to the loft and start cleaning up the inside to get ready to move in. Check back to see the progress.

Busy Tuesday!

We're rushing to get ready for the inspection so we can get our CO (certificate of occupancy) and move into our cabin. Tuesday was another busy day with workers everywhere. The HVAC people put in more vents and put up the condenser on the two foot hill grandma made for them.

Mom mopped the floors to get ready for guests.

Dad finally figured out how to use his new pneumatic finishing nailer and miter saw and installed the tongue and groove wall that connects the music room with the great room.

The carpenters finished the trim on the kitchen cabinets.

They finished tiling the last bathroom upstairs.

But most important, they put in the septic system. Now the plumber can come and finish installing the sinks, toilets and tubs. Notice the cute supervisor dog helping out with the excavations.

Busy Friday

When we got to the farm at 8:30, the log cabin was already surrounded by trucks and cars for tilers, electricians, air conditioner installers, appliance delivery people, and cabinet installers.

The HVAC people brought in the air handler and installed it and all the vent covers. Grandma worked at shoveling two foot deep of dirt where the condenser pads will be.

The electricians added all the light switches and plug ins and installed all the can lights.

The tiler worked to finish the master bath shower and tub. He just has the upstairs bathroom to go.

The kitchen appliances and cupboards were delivered and the cupboards were installed.

On the back porch are a new finishing nail gun, a new miter saw, and a pile of tongue and groove that we picked up at Bubba's Cracker Sawmill in Williston for my Saturday project finishing up the wall that joins the music room with the great room. Next week the septic tank and the plumbing will be put in and I have to work on the stairs and put in some doors. If we pass inspection on Wednesday, we might be able to move in by Christmas, just a year after we started building!

Tiling begins

They've put up the Durock in the bathrooms and tiling has begun.

One of our brown cows just added a baby calf.

We've had our van two years and have already put on 100,000 miles just with moving and building activities and visits with grandkids.

Birthday boys

Corby just turned 8 and we went to his baptism. However, I forgot to take the camera to church so this is the spiritual picture taken afterwards.

Stephen turned 5. Here he is on the left playing air guitar with Chuck E Cheese.

Off to frozen northland

We can only keep our work crews around for a short time. Before we sent Chrissy and Randy and kids off to the frozen northland in Minnesota, grandma gave them new hats that she had knitted herself. Don't they look great? James is upset that he is leaving his cousins and Florida fun.

We'll have to finish the painting ourselves.
