We stopped in London to see where the Powells and Bleaks lived when they joined the church in the 1850's. Things have changed so much that we couldn't really find where they lived. In fact we got lost just trying to find our hotel just a few blocks from the Victoria train station. The next morning we looked out our hotel window...
and saw that Mary Poppins had come by to be our guide and fly us around town with her magic umbrella. I think she needs to work on keeping everything in her travel bag!
We were happy to have her as a guide since much of this part of London was designed by the same architect a hundred years ago or so and everything looks the same. Can you tell which two columns mark the entrance to our hotel? If we hadn't had the exact address we could never have found it. See why you can get lost?
She flew us first past the Texas Embassy for Robert, Sage, Wendy, and Uncle Spencer.
Then past Trafalgar Square...
and the Queen's horse guards...
and Westminster Abbey where the Kings and Queens of England are crowned, married, and buried...
to Big Ben and the British Parliament.
She told us that Dr. Who no longer uses the telephone booths for time travel.
The London eye was a busy as ever.
Of course, we flew past the Millennium Bridge and St. Pauls, but couldn't find Liza Doolittle and they don't let you feed the birds any more.
The season at Shakespeare's Globe Theatre doesn't open for another couple of weeks.
When we saw the Tower Bridge in the distance, we knew our Mary Poppins flight was about over.
There in front of us next to the bridge was the Tower of London, the castle built by William the Conqueror after 1066 so he could control London. This is where all the wives of Henry the VIII were beheaded. The kings and queens lived here until they moved out of the city where there was more breathing room.
Ms Poppins left us off here so we could explore on foot.
